Hi! I’m Leigh, and I’m a private practice consultant + business mentor based in Richmond, Virginia. I have spent years finetuning my skills in private practice here in Richmond at the executive management level. When I’m not supporting private practice owners, I’m chasing twin 4-year olds and one surprisingly fast toddler, sipping wine, cooking in my kitchen, and buying more houseplants than one person could ever need. I'm currently making my suburban homesteading dream a reality! I put sriracha on my sriracha.
I am SO dang excited that you’re here. My name is Leigh, and by the time you’re seeing this, you’ve probably poked around on the internet to learn a little bit about me. If you haven’t, allow me to introduce myself.
I'm a consultant + business mentor.
I teach private practice owners in the integrative + mental healthcare industries how to balance practice management and business ownership with their clinical caseloads.
I have three young kids, and I am obsessed with houseplants and succulents. It’s like, borderline a problem (my husband's words, not mine). I love cooking, but I hate recipes and taking the time to measure ingredients, so I do not bake. I loooove spicy food and Italian. I’m super close to my family, I play co-ed volleyball, and I’m an avid Audible listener. My iTunes library has everything from Allison Krauss to Swollen Members to Tracy Chapman to Eminem and back to James Taylor. I’m Buddhist. I love to coerce my husband into decorating for Halloween in August, burn incense like it’s a high paying job, and I use four-letter words like commas most of the time.
I have worked in executive practice management in some capacity for over ten years, most recently as a practice manager of a medium-sized private mental health practice in the Richmond, Virginia area where I’ve been involved for 8 years now. The practice operates with about 26 clinical providers of varying licensure and between 4 and 5 full-time admin staff at any given time. My expertise there really lies in finances, operations, HIPAA compliance, and strategic planning.
My husband and I had our first kids (twins), in early 2018. By mid-2019, I was feeling the need to test the waters in the online space, first as a virtual assistant of the medical and mental health industries doing done-for-you service work, but in 2020, I quickly pivoted into consulting because I realized that my passions were really best put to use helping others manage a practice effectively... Throughout the pandemic, my client load has totally clarified for me that I am also really well positioned to integrate mindset work and more of a business coaching + mentorship approach into my consulting services, and that’s really been my sweet spot.
It's not just because I'm good at it or because it generates revenue. There are lots of other ways to reap those dopamine boosts in life. And let's be honest, I know I'm a control freak, but it's not just about bossing people around either. :) It's a lot deeper than that.
It finally dawned on me one day as I was listening to my grandparents talk about their top-notch doctor and what a great experience they've had with him since day 1. The reason I love working with my clients is because the work I do is so deeply rooted in my own values and my vision of the healthcare industry.
I'm tired of politicians and legislators and health payers dictating the patient-provider connection. I'm tired of the industrialization of healthcare and the handing out of one-size-fits-all treatment plans. I'm also tired of sh*tty experiences in hospitals + doctors' offices.
It's time to hit the reset button on the patient experience. Hospitals and corporate healthcare aren't going to do it for us (mostly because their budgets are so ginormous and their stakeholders are too risk averse)! So that means providers themselves need to start to take a vested interest in how it feels to be a patient in their caseload. And private practices are the perfect place to start.
I want to do everything in my power to support providers + private practice owners who value patient-centered care and who are using their autonomy in private practice to take better care of patients and render high quality treatment services.
I believe so vehemently that private practice owners are the key to infusing the healthcare industry with the values it needs most that I'm dedicating my career to ensuring they have the tools and resources they need to do it well.
I'm a systems enthusiast. I don't have time for inefficiency, and either do you.
I love rules, because I think they are easy to follow when you know what they are. But I'm also a huge fan of breaking them if I think there's a better way to do things. So you can bet your sweet tush that we're going to take a lot of the beliefs you "know" to be true about healthcare + practice management and turn them upside down.
I provide my clients at every level with evidence-based solutions and tried-and-true advice, but I also revere the magic that happens during the co-creation process. You are the brand of your practice, so you play a vital role in the design of your practice's systems + the impact you make on your patients.
My 1:1 clients and I find the sweet spot between compliance, personal values/preferences, and the industry's best practices (the ones that are ACTUALLY the best for all involved... which is not necessarily equivalent to the existing conditions of the industry!).
If you're saying to yourself, "Leigh seems a little rough around the edges, but I'm totally vibing with her approach, and I know I need her to help me bypass the learning curve..." you're right...
And I cannot wait to support you in your private practice journey. So let's get started!
